The game's lore is based around a second, fictional explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, adjacent to the city of Pripyat in 2006. STALKER 2, or rather the original STALKER 2, was announced back in 2010, with a scheduled release date in 2011, with plans to use a new multi-platform game engine that would be written by GSC. Shadow of Chernobyl is a semi-open worlded survival horror first person shooter based in the Exclusion Zone/Zone of Alienation (Ingame, simply known as The Zone) of Pripyat, Kiev, Ukraine. GSC Game World has released their first 'Cinematic Teaser' trailer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.2 (STALKER 2), a sequel to the developer's hugely popular STALKER series, which currently contains three entries, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and its sequels Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat.
